Mohammed Ali Ndume Biography
Nigerian politician Mohammed Ali Ndume, born on November 20, 1959, served in the Federal House of Representatives from 2003 until 2011. In April 2011, he won a seat in the Senate for Borno South, Borno State, Nigeria, while campaigning as a PDP candidate. Right now, he belongs to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Early life and education
Born in Borno State’s Gwoza Town is Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume. He graduated in 1972 from Gwoza’s Gadamayo Primary School. From 1973 to 1978, he attended Comprehensive Secondary School Mubi in what was then Gongola, present-day Adamawa State, where he earned his WASC and Secondary School Certificate.
He was cut out early in life for Leadership position as he was appointed Junior House Captain and promoted to House Captain in his final year Secondary School. His exceptional superlative brilliance saw him emerging in constant First position in class at Comprehensive Secondary School Mubi.
On completion of Secondary School he went on to Kaduna Polytechnic to study Marketing in 1978. He completed his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in 1980 and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing in 1982 with Upper Credit level. He proceeded to Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in Ogun State between 1982 – 1983 for his compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
He began teaching at the renowned Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri in 1983 and eventually attained the position of Senior Lecturer. He received a post-graduate scholarship from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in 1988 to study business and computer education at the University of Toledo in Ohio, the United States of America. He earned a B.Ed. and M.Ed. there in 1990 and received the academic honor of Magna Cum Laude.
Due to his excellent work, he was also accepted into the academic society Phi Kappa Phi. He returned to Nigeria after receiving his degree and continued working as a teacher at the Ramat Polytechnic in Maiduguri, Borno State, until 2003, when he became heavily active in politics.
ANPP politician
On the All Nigeria People Party (ANPP) platform, Ndume was chosen in 2003 to represent the people of the Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
He held this position from 2003 until 2011. He was unanimously chosen as the Minority Leader at the start of the sixth (6th) Assembly in 2007 and performed admirably.
PDP politician
With only 100 days to the 2011 elections, Ndume defected to the PDP in December 2010 and mentioned the ANPP’s internal inequities as his justification. He said that the majority of Southern Borno’s populace supported him wholeheartedly.
He claimed that he was not given an equal opportunity to compete with other ANPP candidates for the Senate election. Evidently, he and Governor Ali Modu Sheriff had a falling out.
Ndume’s defection to the PDP was seen as a major blow to the ANPP. He was said to have been the major financer and the back-bone of ANPP in the Borno-South senatorial zone, and was considered one of the most dynamic of the lawmakers from the northeast zone.
Following Ndume’s defection, the PDP re-opened the sale of nomination forms. Alhaji Sanda Garba, who had been the only aspirant for the South Borno Senate seat, stepped down to make way for Ndume as the PDP candidate.
Ndume received 146,403 votes in the election, beating out the ANPP’s Dr. Asaba Vilita Bashir (133,734) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)’s Alhaji Unaru Ibrahim (20,414). Ndume remained active and dynamic in the political sphere while serving as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the MDGs in the 7th Senate. Senato.
Due to his close ties to the Presidency and backing of Ibrahim Magu, a candidate to lead the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ndume was fired from his position.Throughout the 8th session, the 8th Senate’s leadership, led by Bukola Saraki, clashed with the executive branch. With Justice Aisha and Hajia Maryam, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume is blessed with ten kids.
Achievements
The Constituencies Development Fund Bill and the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, which allowed Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to vote in the 2015 elections, are only two of the several motions and bills that Senator Ndume sponsored in the Parliament.
He founded CPC with 20 of his colleagues as a result of political realignments, which subsequently merged into APC, the current ruling party.
In the 2015 Senate elections, he was re-elected, and in the 8th Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he assumed the position of Leader of the Senate until 2017, when Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan succeeded him. The director of the Rotimi Ameachi campaign was Mohammed Ali Ndume.
Constituency projects
Mohammed Ali Ndume has constituency projects spread out across all nine local government areas in his senatorial district (Borno south). Since taking office, he has been working tirelessly for the advancement of his constituents and the country.
Over 60 intervention projects have been sponsored by Mohammed Ali Ndume alone in his senatorial constituency. These initiatives, which included building classrooms, replica primary health care facilities, electrifying rural areas, and building motorized boreholes, were given to residents of particular communities in accordance with their needs.
Additionally, Mohammed Ali Ndume provided career chances for the young people in his district.In each of the nine local government areas of Borno South, Mohammad Ali Ndume contributed a number of tractors and dug twenty twenty boreholes.
On April 27, 2023, Senator Ndume helps the local government of Gwoza build 100 homes.Senator Ndume received praise from Zulum for his outstanding presentation.
Senate Leadership
Indume Ali Served as the Senate Majority Leader in the Nigerian Senate House following the 2016 elections before being removed from office by Senators of the APC on January 10, 2017. On June 11, 2019, Senator Ndume’s ambition to lead the 9th Senate is unsuccessful. He faced off against Senator Ahmed Lawan, who won.
