Jibrin barau Biography
Nigerian politician Barau Jibrin CON, born in 1959, has served as the Senate’s vice president since 2023. He has served as the senator for Kano North since 2015.
He was elected deputy senate president of the newly-established 10th Senate on June 13, 2023, after his nomination went without opposition.
He is the senatorial representative for Kano North. In the ninth and eighth Senates, Senator Barau served as the head of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and the previous heads of the TETFUND and Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions.

A resident of Kabo Township, Kabo Local Government Area, Kano State, Barau I. Jibrin was born in 1959.
He has an accounting bachelor’s degree, a master’s certificate in financial management and pricing, a master’s certificate in management, and an MBA.
Additionally, he has a certificate from the esteemed Cornell University in the United States in financial management for company decisions.
After completing his initial higher education, the Senator spent a brief period of time working at the Kano State Foundation’s accounting division before leaving in 1992 to launch his own successful business, which has extensive interests in the Nigerian economy’s manufacturing, insurance, and construction sectors.
His success in the business sector gave him the background he needed to start using politics to further the interests of his people.
Political activity
Barau’s adventure began when he ran for office in the House of Representatives in 1999, winning the Tarauni Federal Constituency in Kano State.
He chaired the House Committee on Appropriations while a member of the House of Representatives. During that time, he also served on the Committee on Power of the House of Representatives.
He quickly returned to his own company after serving his term in the House of Representatives, but not before expressing his seeming interest in the political maneuvering of his home state of Kano.
Later in life, he held the position of chairman for the Kano State Investment and Properties Ltd, a business owned by the state of Kano.
He once served as Kano State’s commissioner for science and technology. He was chosen in 2001 to be a member of the committee that former President Olusegun Obasanjo established to examine the Nigerian budgetary process.
He was appointed by the Kano State Government in 2009 to the position of member of the Kano State Business Incentive Committee, a role in which he was well-versed.
On his second attempt at running for office in 2015, Senator Barau ran on the platform of the All Progressives Congress and was elected to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing the Kano North Senatorial District.
He was assigned to the Senate’s Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) the same year and later rose to the position of Chairman.
He was reassigned to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETfund as Chairman of the Committee in the latter half of 2016.
He also served on the Committee on the Niger Delta, Industries, Land Transportation, and Appropriations in addition to holding this Senate portfolio.
He served as the Northern Senators Forum’s secretary as well.
He sponsored Federal Polytechnic Kabo on October 3, 2019.

In 2010, he agreed to a recording deal with the record company Chocolate City; however, in 2013, he was charged with contract violation.Brymo’s first studio album, Brymstone, was released in 2007.

Early stages of life and career
Olawale Ashimi, an only child of his parents who are an Awori carpenter and an Egun small-time merchant, was born and raised in Okokomaiko, Ojo, Lagos State, Nigeria.
Ashimiw raised in a multifaith family and, after enrolling in an Islamic school, she learnt how to recite the complete Qur’an. Following her enrollment at Japual Primary School, Ashimi first attended Aganju Aka Primary School.

Controversy

Initial career
Ogu started out as a youth football player with the Flying Sports Academy, Akwa Starlets, and Akwa United. His senior career in Slovenia officially began on September 23, 2006, when he signed with Drava Ptuj from the Slovenian PrvaLiga.
Ogu made 97 appearances during his four-year tenure and scored eight goals.
Portugal
Ogu joined Atlético Clube de Portugal in the summer of 2010, when it was a member of Portugal’s Terceira Diviso. He traveled to nearby Spain after six months and signed for Almera, however he only played for Almera B in the third tier.
Ogu joined Leiria in November 2011 after moving back to Portugal, although the squad was demoted to the second division at the end of the campaign.
Ogu changed teams from Primeira Liga to Académica in July 2012. In the third round of the Portuguese Cup against Ponte da Barca, Ogu scored his first goal.

Be’er Sheva Hapoel
Ogu moved to Israel for the 2014–15 season, and on September 2, 2014, he made his Hapoel Be’er Sheva debut in a 0-0 Toto Cup match against Maccabi Petah Tikva. He agreed to a four-year contract with Hapoel Be’er Sheva on September 7.
He made his Israeli Premier League debut against Beitar Jerusalem at Vasermil Stadium five days later. On November 29, he scored his first goal for Hapoel Be’er Sheva in a 4-0 home victory over Maccabi Netanya.
The team’s inaugural campaign saw them get to the Israel State Cup finals, where they fell to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

International Career
Ogu was selected to play for the Nigerian national team in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier in March 2013. He made his debut against Kenya in a 1-1 tie, coming on as a replacement for an injured Victor Moses.
In a friendly match against Mexico on May 31 at Houston’s Reliant Stadium, Ogu scored his first goal for Nigeria. Ogu was chosen as one of 23 players on June 9 by Nigerian coach Stephen Keshi to compete in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
He was called up on March 18 along with 27 other athletes for the slated friendlies against Bolivia and South Africa.
He was included in Nigeria’s preliminary 30-man team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in May 2018 Russian World Cup.He was a member of the 23-person team going to the 2019 AFCON.
