Scandal
On Tuesday, October 12, 2021, Natasha H. Akpoti, a female candidate for governor of Kogi State, claimed that Omokri had approached her on May 6, 2014, during a state banquet for Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In response, Omokri offered a $50,000 reward to anyone who could produce images or videos of him at the Uhuru Kenyatta banquet. Omokri also offered proof that he was not in the country at the time of the event in the form of a British Airways ticket and immigration stamps from both Nigeria and the United States on his passport. After accusing him, Natasha Akpoti removed all evidence of her accusations from her social media accounts.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria postponed the poll that was originally slated to take place on Saturday, February 16, 2019 by one week during the 2019 general elections.
Nigerians were furious when the election was postponed until five hours before voting began since many had traveled great distances to cast their votes. In response to their annoyance, Omokri started an initiative he called #BusesForDemocracy, which offered free transportation to voters’ voting places regardless of their intended vote.

Movement to free Leah Sharibu
Leah Sharibu, a Christian girl who was abducted on February 19, 2018, by the extreme Islamic sect Boko Haram, was the target of the Free Leah Sharibu initiative, which was founded by Omokri. Sharibu was given the chance to be freed by Boko Haram if she converted to Islam, but she declined.
At his office in the British Parliament on April 3, 2019, former British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson MP unveiled the #FreeLeahSharibu custom apparel line. Omokri was able to provide Miss Sharibu’s parents around £4,000 through his clothing company and book.
On April 11, 2019, Omokri climbed Mount Everest in Nepal while donning the unique #FreeLeahSharibu tracksuit.
Omokri received the Humanitarian of the Year award for his work on the #FreeLeahSharibu campaign on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival held at the Warner Brothers Studio in Burbank, California.
To commemorate the fourth anniversary of Leah Sharibu’s kidnapping by Boko Haram/ISWAP, Omokri worked with Onyeka Onwenu, Panam Percy Paul, and Leah’s father on a charity single on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

A campaign to stop following Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Twitter was effectively supported by Reno Omokri. His hashtag campaign, #UnfollowBuhari, caused the Twitter following of the president of Nigeria to fall by 100,000 in just three hours.

On Friday, September 24, 2021, Omokri organized a demonstration in New York against Nigerian President Buhari, who was there to attend the Seventy-sixth session of the UN General Assembly.
The Nigerian Consulate alerted the New York Police Department to the demonstrators, but no arrests or interventions were made because the demonstration was nonviolent.
However, following the demonstration, a stalker followed Mr. Omokri to his hotel and attacked him. Only his bodyguard, Mr. Sean Reilly, who grappled the attacker, chased him away, and dialed 911, was able to save him. The entire incident was recorded on video, and the media reported on it.
On Saturday, September 25, 2021, a pro-Buhari group released a statement that was picked up by the pro-government Daily Times.

After the Lagos #EndSARS panel indicted the Buhari administration in its report, Omokri started a petition on the change.org platform on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, calling on the International Criminal Court to bring charges against and imprison Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for the #LekkiMassacre of peaceful, unarmed #EndSARS protesters.
According to Nigeria’s most popular daily newspaper, The Punch, the petition received 40,000 signatures in less than 24 hours, making it the fastest petition of Nigerian origin to be signed by Friday, November 19, 2021.

After garnering 74.67% of the vote out of more than 200,000 cast, Omokri won the Business Influencer of the Year award at the Business Insider Africa awards in April 2022 from the American financial and business news website Business Insider. Goodluck Jonathan, a former president of Nigeria, and Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, congratulated him.
