Gambari is one of the students that attended King’s College in Lagos. He later enrolled to the London School of Economics where he bagged his B. Sc. (Economics) degree in 1968 with specialisation in International Relations.
He later bagged his M.A. in 1970 and Ph. D degrees from Columbia University, New York, USA in Political Science /International Relations in 1974.

Career
Ibrahin Agboola Gambari began his career by teaching at City University of New York in 1969 before working at University of Albany. After sometimes, he worked at Ahmadu Bello University as teacher in Zaria, Kaduna State.
For three years within the year 1986 to 1989, Gambari was Visiting Professor at three universities in Washington, D.C. Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Georgetown University and Howard University.
He has also been a research fellow at the Brookings Institution also in Washington D.C. and a Resident Scholar at the Bellagio Study and Conference Center, the Rockefeller Foundation-run center located in Italy.
He is a written and he has written so many books and published in reputable journals in foreign policy and international relations such as ‘Theory and Reality in Foreign Policy: Nigeria after second Republic’.
