Innocent Ujah Idibia Listen MON, better known by his stage name 2Baba, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, record producer, businessman, and philanthropist. He was born on September 18, 1975. He is regarded as one of Nigeria’s best musicians ever and is known for his vocal range, lyrical depth, and durability.

His solo debut album Face2Face (which featured the smash hit “African Queen”) ushered in a new wave of awareness and veneration for Nigerian music among Africans on the continent and in the diaspora. He is mostly responsible for the growth in popularity of Nigerian pop music in the 2000s.

Early Life

Jos is where innocent Ujah Idibia was born. He hails from the Idoma ethnic group in central Nigeria’s southern Benue State. In Makurdi, Benue State, he attended Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School.

Tuface enrolled at the Institute of Management & Technology (IMT), Enugu, where he completed the first phase of the National Diploma program in Business Administration and Management.

He legally changed his name from Tuface to 2Baba in 2016.

Plantashun Boiz worked hard together in order to released two successful album titled “Body and Soul” in 2000 and second album released on 2003 titled “Sold Out” under the Dive Record Label owned by Nelson Brown’s but is unfortunate that the baby separated in 2014, after some years that they break up they come back together in 2007 in order to release their third which happens to be final Album titled Plan B.

2Baba don’t relax after the separation of the Plantashun Boyz band in 2004, he go further to start his solo career by the released of solo album titled Face 2 Face in that same year they separated and this solo album make everybody understand that 2Baba can stand on his own as an artist.

2Baba left the music label Kennis Music after the release of his second solo album and later form is own label Hypertek Entertainment.

After the little break, he went on to dropped his second album in the year 2006 titled Grass 2 Grace, the second album consist of three single titled One Love, True Love and 4 Instance.

Philanthropy

“Service to humanity” is the motto of the 2Baba Foundation, an NGO that 2Baba founded. The nonprofit, formerly known as the 2Face Reach out nonprofit and later the 2Face Foundation, changed its name to the 2Baba Foundation in September 2016. The activities of the foundation is focused on fostering national development, harmonious coexistence, and transparent governance.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) appointed 2Baba as an ambassador in 2009. He released the song “Man Unkind” to draw attention to the dangers of counterfeit and poor-quality food and medication goods in Nigeria.

In 2009, the National Youth Council of Nigeria honored Idibia for his efforts to the advancement of young people in Nigeria by awarding him the coveted International Youth Ambassador for Peace Summit and the Nigeria Youth Merit Award.

Tuesday saw the opening of a multi-million naira music studio that 2baba had donated to Obafemi Awolowo University.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNCHR) appointed Idibia as its new regional goodwill ambassador on June 23, 2020. He was the first Nigerian to be appointed by UNHCR in this capacity.

In August 2016, 2Baba was named the first African representative for the Campari alcoholic liquor from Italy. He was appointed a Guinness beer ambassador in 2005.

Additionally, he represents the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control as a brand ambassador. 2010 saw the endorsement of 2Baba by Airtel Nigeria. In May 2019, after his contract with Airtel expired, he agreed to a new endorsement agreement with Globacom Telecom.

In July 2019, the real estate company Pazino Homes and Gardens appointed 2Baba as their brand ambassador. Tuface and Wizkid were selected as the 2014 faces of Hennessy Artistry. 2019 saw the debut of 2Baba as Oraimo’s first and official brand ambassador.

Controversies

Throughout his career, Tuface has been involved in a lot of issues. Tuface’s departure from Plantashun Boiz in 2004 caused the band to break up, which sparked a dispute with his former comrades who held him responsible. In a few of the songs on their respective solo albums, Tuface and his former bandmate Faze trade blame.

A dispute erupted over the popular song “African Queen” between Tuface, his record company Kennis Music, and Blackface, a former bandmate who accused Tuface of stealing the song from him and claimed it was written while they were still a band.

In the end, Kennis Music consented to grant Blackface authorship credit for the song and to pay him royalties from the song’s sales.

Tuface announced through his Instagram account on January 25 that he would be organizing a protest against Muhammadu Buhari’s policies that will take place across the country on February 5.

In an effort to put an end to the protest, the administration, through Lagos State Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni, issued a statement declaring that it was illegal to hold protests in the state due to the possibility that thugs would hijack them and use them to cause mayhem.

However, the statement was publicly rejected and ignored, which is why social media continued to be used to publicize the protest. On February 4, 2017, Tuface announced in a video that he was postponing the protest because of security concerns.

However, social media rumors claimed that the administration had picked him up earlier that day and had pressured him to postpone the highly anticipated protest. Tuface later denied the claim in a series of tweets from his official Twitter account.
