Zamfara Killings: Over one million refugees in Niger Republic -Cleric
Sheikh Ahmad Umar Kanoma, a leading Islamic scholar in Zamfara State, has decried the rate at which the state’s citizens troop into the Niger Republic as refugees due to constant and uncontrolled killings and kidnappings.
Kanoma said that the influx of the people into Niger Republic became necessary since Nigerian security agencies were unable to quell the ugly development.
He, however, used most of his time during Monday’s sermon in a mosque in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, to condemn the upsurge in crimes, saying the state needed divine intervention.
According to him, the bloodletting might not be unconnected with sheer desire to amass wealth and positions, saying that the manner armed bandits continued to unleash terror in the state strongly suggested that it could be sponsored since the armed bandits do not take money from the victims.
