Team Nigeria to participate in Alfaga Taekwondo Championships
The Taekwondo Referees Association (NTRA) has confirmed the participation of 33 taekwondoists and nine officials in the forthcoming 2nd Alfaga Cup Taekwondo Championships in Niamey, Niger Republic.
The President of NTRA, Ferguson Oluigbo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the participants had completed the championships’ registration requirements which ended on June 10.
Oluigbo said that arrangement had been concluded for the contingent to depart the country on June 18 for the championships holding from June 19 to June 24 in Palaise Des Sports, Niamey.
“The championships’ requirements were clearly stated with the registration date inclusive, and so far, 33 athletes and nine officials have been cleared and confirmed for participation.
“The information provided by participants during registration will guide us in tidying up necessary arrangement because we need to be in Niamey at least a day before the tournament,’’ he said.
He said that the taekwondoists would feature in the male and female Kyorugi and Poomsae events for junior, senior and cadet categories at the championships.
“Athletes are registered in their categories and events, and every one of them is warming up to excel in their class, while officials are doing the needful on the athletes,’’ he added.
According to him, the six-day championships is being hosted by Abdoulrazak Alfaga, a 2016 Olympian and sanctioned by the Niger Republic Taekwondo Federation.
The NTRA boss who doubles as the secretary of West African Taekwondo Referees Association, added that participants would benefit from free training camp as well as free feeding.
