Niger govt charges new management to ensure Niger Tornadoes win 2017/2018 NPFL
The Niger State Government on Thursday urged the new management committee of Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna to ensure the club win the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Mohammed Gana, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Sports Development, gave the charge while inaugurating the eight-man committee in Minna.
“We want you to win the NPFL this season and also improve your performance in last year’s AITEO Cup, where the team emerged second after losing to Akwa United in Lagos,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the management committee was inaugurated two weeks after the appointment of its members.
Gana also advised the management committee to allow each of its members to function in accordance with the schedule contained in their appointment letters to avoid internal wrangling among them.
He enjoined the management to initiate other sources of fund to manage the club as government cannot do the funding alone.
“The club management needs to be prudent in financial management because of dwindling resources in the state,’’ the Permanent Secretary said.
He listed members of the committee to include Abubakar Gawu as Chairman, Bello Maikunkele as Vice-Chairman, Usman Ziga as Team Manager and Abdullahi Dangana as Media Officer.
Others in the management committee are Awwal Baba as Welfare Officer, Abdullahi Likita as the Liaison Officer, Aliyu Kontagora as Club Secretary and Sani Balarabe as Marketing Officer.
Earlier, Gawu had assured that the management committee would ensure that the team surpassed its achievements of last season.
He said the club management’s first assignment would be to ensure that the club returned to the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium in Minna for its campaign in the 2017/2018 NPFL season.
