Forget it, you can’t unseat PDP in Delta Onuesoke tells APC
Ahead of the battle for the soul of Delta State come 2019, a one-time governorship aspirant and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has said that no opposition formula or strategy can unseat the PDP from the government come 2019.
Onuesoke said this while reacting to a statement credited to Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, an APC chieftain who said the opposition would not repeat the mistake of 2015.
Chief Emerhor made the statement over the weekend when Prof. Pat Utomi, a governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), paid him a consultation visit at his residence in Evwreni town in Delta.
“As an individual, I have decided along with other committed APC leaders who really want change in Delta State that we will not do things the same way again this time because the opposition in Delta has not had this type of opportunity that is available to us today.
“You will recall that in 2015, I ran for the governorship of Delta State, and still have the capacity to do that now. But I took a decision not to run because the environment supports a different formula and that formula excludes me, and that is why I am not out there consulting like others,” Emerho had averred.
However, Chief Onuesoke, in a chat at the Thanksgiving reception and welcome ceremony by Chief John Oguma in honour of Chief James Ibori, said that from all indications, there was no formula or a new strategy that would be employed by the opposition that could be of threat to the PDP in the state.
“The truth remains that PDP is too strong in Delta State to be concerned about the opposition formula or strategy.
“The failure rate of the APC at the federal level has made it even more difficult for the people of Delta to accept the opposition here in the state.
“PDP, as led by our amiable governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, is waxing stronger and stronger in the state; soon there will be an avalanche of decamping from the opposition to our party which will result in final and total collapse of the opposition structure if there is any existing in the state” he added.
